In Tonga there are 176 islands and only 36 are inhabited. The Kingdom of Tonga is the only remaining Polynesian monarchy in the Pacific. It has never been colonized by an outside nation. Life in Tonga is fundamentally the same as it was hundreds of years ago. The Tongan culture is reserved, proud and yet refreshingly not boastful. Vava'u Islands comprise of 61 islands with lush tropical landscapes, and lies 240kms north of the mainland. |

Australia: South Coast NSW
ON THE WILDSIDE is now conducting tour research for this new destination for 2012.We are also working on South East Coast NSW in Australia. The tour will depart from Sydney and travel south to the small town of Eden. The tour will include a lot of close-up wildlife encounters, kangaroos on the beach, swimming with fur seals and more. Every year Humpback whales aggregate in Eden on the migration from the Coral sea and Pacific ocean, we will join a research boat and witness their dynamic displays, breaching, tail lobbs and spy hopping. New Zealand: Lake Waikaremoana, Te Urewera National Park
ON THE WILDSIDE is now conducting tour research for this new destination Lake Waikaremoana, in the Te Urewera National Park in New Zealand.
We are based in New Zealand and know our country well. This Lake and its surrounds is unspoilt wilderness, and the most isolated area in the North Island. We will depart from Tauranga and travel New Zealand's hardest roads to our cabins deep in the Beech forest. This is a special place, a spiritual place. Fiji: Taveuni island
ON THE WILDSIDE is now conducting tour research for this new destination Taveuni in Fiji. This is another hidden wilderness of the Pacific, the 'Garden Island' of Fiji. It's actually the third largest island in the Fiji group, but is isolated from tourism because of its remote location; not your everyday tourist destination. We have spent several trips there and now have a great tour we are designing with gentle activities and hidden treasures. The bush walks and waterfalls are amazing, the snorkeling and diving the best in the world and the fishing is easy. In between activities and food, hang a hammock to just relax.
